Restore Lip balm is loaded with delicious herbal goodness to protect and restore your winter dry lips. It contains some number 1 in skincare herbs.
Calendula is a powerful wound and tissue healer (vulnerary) both externally and internally. It has long been used to soothe and heal cuts, burns, bites, sprains, bruises, rashes, sunburns, and abrasions due to it’s antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, hemostatic, and tissue-healing actions. Calendula also contains salicylic acid (Foster, 1993) so it works as an analgesic to help relieve the pain associated with these types of wounds and skin irritations. Calendula is an anti-fungal herb used both internally and externally for the treatment of such conditions as fungal skin infections (e.g. athlete’s foot and jock itch) and yeast overgrowths (e.g. candida in the gut, thrush, and vaginal yeast infections). Calendula’s antimicrobial action is also helpful in case of eye infections such as pink eye/conjunctivitis.
Lemon balm is also widely used as a topical and internal antiviral herb, especially for viruses of the Herpesviridae family, including herpes (types 1 and 2), chickenpox, shingles, mono, and sixth disease (roseola). Its diaphoretic action also indicates its use when viruses are accompanied by a fever, especially in children. Lemon balm appears to work by blocking viral replication in the body, and the potential of its antiviral abilities is just beginning to be explored; recent studies indicate that it may be effective against HIV-1. Lemon balm’s antiviral activity against the herpes simplex virus (HSV) is well documented. One randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study found that among sixty-six patients with recurring herpes (HSV-2), those given a highly concentrated topical cream made from the dried leaves of lemon balm experienced a rapid decrease in symptoms (and a shortened duration of healing) than those administered the placebo. In addition, lemon balm is a fast-acting remedy for herpes.
