Echinacea Purpurea is a well known immune booster. I was prescribed Purple Coneflower 20 years ago by Dr. Fuller, a Holistic Physician. Since then Echinacea has always been a companion in my medicine cabinet. Dr. Fuller recommended using Echinacea at the onset of cold and flu symptoms and discouraged use as a daily immune support herb. This Published studies looked at how well Echinacea worked to prevent or shorten the course of a cold and found it to be effective. The plant contains many phytochemicals that play a role in its therapeutic effects, including polysaccharides, glycoproteins, volatile oils, and flavonoids. Echinacea Purpurea Root with anti-viral and antimicrobial properties is used topically and internally. My family uses it internally at the onset of cold-like symptoms as an immune stimulant. Echinacea is an ingredient in my Renewed Hope salve for its antimicrobial properties.
